MailSenderToFrom plugin

From LimeSurvey Manual

Hint: This feature is available starting in version 4.0.0

Usage

Some SMTP servers reject or bounce outgoing mail if the "From" address does not match the account used to authenticate with that server. This plugin works around that by forcing LimeSurvey to always send mail using the SMTP account's own address, instead of the survey's or site's configured admin address.

When active, and only if SMTP username is filled in under Configuration -> Global settings -> Email settings, the plugin changes every outgoing email as follows:

  • The From address and the SMTP envelope/bounce address (Sender) are both replaced with the SMTP username.
  • The original From address (the survey's Admin email, or the site's default admin email) is kept, but only as a Reply-To address, so replies from participants still reach the intended recipient.

This applies to all outgoing email: system/test emails, survey response notifications sent to administrators, and invitation, reminder and registration confirmation emails sent to participants. There is no per-survey option to exclude specific emails from this behavior.

If SMTP username is left empty (for example when using the PHP or Sendmail sending method instead of SMTP), the plugin does nothing, even while active.

Before using this feature, the plugin must be activated in Plugin Manager. It has no settings of its own — activating it is all that is required.
