ComfortUpdateChecker plugin

From LimeSurvey Manual

ComfortUpdateChecker is the core plugin responsible for the small notification badge shown in the administration top menu when a new LimeSurvey release is available.

This page only covers the notification badge itself. For everything about the update mechanism it reports on — the update key, requirements, the one-click update wizard, backups, proxy configuration and troubleshooting — see the main ComfortUpdate article.

It is a core plugin, active by default, and only visible to superadministrators. It does not perform the update check itself — it only displays what LimeSurvey's update mechanism (described in ComfortUpdate) has already found, once a day, in the administration top menu.

Behavior

If an update is available, an extra entry is added to the top menu bar:

  • Update available, shown normally, or
  • Security update available, shown in a warning color, if the available update is flagged as a security update.

Clicking this entry opens the update page described in ComfortUpdate. If deactivating this plugin (Configuration -> Plugin manager -> ComfortUpdateChecker), the notification badge no longer appears, but this does not disable the update mechanism itself — updates can still be checked and applied manually from the update page, and the global updatable config option described in Disabling ComfortUpdate is what actually controls that.

Settings

The plugin's own settings (Configuration -> Plugin manager -> ComfortUpdateChecker -> Settings) only affect how the notification is displayed, not whether or how often updates are checked:

  • Notification only for security updates: if enabled, the badge only appears when the available update is a security update; regular (non-security) updates stay silent. Off by default.
  • Animate update icon: if enabled, the badge's icon uses a small shake animation to draw attention to it. Off by default.
