Importing a survey was created by nenneke
Hi,
I am trying to export, edit, and then import a survey.
I export the already created survey as a .txt file, then open it in Excel, and modify it. However, when I try to import it back into LimeSurvey, every time I receive an error message, saying:
The page badania.psych.pan.pl is not working
The server badania.psych.pan.pl cannot handle this request right now
HTTP ERROR 500
(badania.psych.pan.pl is the server LimeSurvey is installed on)
I figured that maybe there's something wrong with the modified file, so I tried importing a file where only the name of the survey was modified. The same happened.
After the message is displayed, I refresh the page - the LimeSurvey interface appears, saying:
***Success***
The file was uploaded successfully. Reading the file...
***Success***
Surveys:
Languages:
Question groups:
Questions:
Question attributes:
Answers:
Answer evaluations:
Quotas: ( quota members and language settings
"Go to survey" button that is displayed below does not work.
The imported survey does not appear on the survey list.
Also cutting the file to make it shorter (removing most of the questions) did not help.
The survey includes flash files that were added by the "add flash" button in the question window, and then indicating the URL of the previously uploaded flash files. I work on the 2.05+ Build 140703 version.
The original survey works fine.
Importing a simple survey with just one question and no flash files looks the same, BUT after refreshing the page (after the server error message), the survey DOES appear in the survey list.
I attach the file I am trying to import - the full and the short version (short=just 5 questions left, all the flash file URLs removed).
Can you give me any advice as to what might be wrong?
Thank you in advance.
Best,
Ewa

Hi,
I'm afraid that I cannot help but here are some my observations. I use LS 2.06lts Build 160801 and I imported both your surveys without any error or warning message.
1. Both surveys have expiration date so they appear on the list of inactive surveys.
2. In the longer survey all Polish specific characters and everything after them in a line were cut (dropped). This seems that the character coding after exporting from Excel changed. I think that this may cause some trouble. I usually use Open Office Calc to modify LS files (tokens) instead of Excel bacause I feel that I have more control over the coding .
3. In the shorter survey all Polish texts look fine.
4. I cannot see the flash files but they are on your server and I don't have the full path. When you import the survey the number of the survey changes. However, the path to the flash file in a question does not change. But I assume that the path is still valid after import.
Best regards

My bet: it's a problem with separators and quotes ( ' or " or , or ; etc)

In my case its not a memory issue. And I can´t understand how it can be a separator problem either. I haven´t changed the survey. What I want to do is to join several different surveys into one large. It is exactly the same questions in all surveys. But I fail whatever I do

Opening and saving a csv file in excel is enough to update all its separator, without doing anything else.AnnaBH wrote: how it can be a separator problem either. I haven´t changed the survey.

But how can it be a problem when I use LImesurveys own import and export functions? When I try to import a survey I exported just minutes ago I get the answer that "This is not a Limesurvey survey file."?
