Hello all,

At first the post subject will look like a dupe of bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=8438 , however even after updating from 131206 to 140204, the default answers for the hidden questions are still not saved to the database. This worked well in 131031 for all surveys, and now isn't working for all surveys.

I wanted to reopen the bug in the issue tracker, but am unable to, since it is closed. Perhaps I'm missing something important here? It clearly worked before updating to the new versions, the surveys were never modified since then.

Thanks for any info or help!
Please also let me know if I should open a new issue in the tracker.

Regards,
Greg

Hi,

you are right about the bug. But why not use an equation type for {rand(1,8)}?
This works quite well.

I just choose the first thing that seemed to work for me.

So far I did not understand how to use equation type.
The fact that equation type has a WYSIWYG input makes no sense at all to me.
Shouldn't that be a plain-text field, or is there a use-case for the WYSIWYG that I am missing?
Does the source-code button from the WYSIWYG have any usefull function?

Anyway this led me to not understand how to use equation type and to use short free text instead.

Kind regards,
Hendrik

Well, from the practical point of view the equation type behaves much like a text only question.

But the difference is, that the result of the equation will be stored in your result database! As I understood your question, I assume that's exactly what you need.

And: yes you are right - the WYSIWYG editor is a little confusing. On the other hand an equation can be visible to your respondents (not always hidden in advanced settings). So you can, if you like, for example add images, audios or whatever you want with complex formulas and you will know what the respondent got.

To your convenience: simply edit the formula you need into the question field. Either in WYSIWYG mode or in source mode (I prefer source mode), don't forget the paranthesis, that's all. :)
