Hi,
I know this issue was reported some time ago.
But since a few days in all my installations (3.15.5,, 3.16.0, 3.16.1 on different servers) the slider starts at the value "5".
This happens in all tested browsers (Firefox 65, Edge, Chrome 73)
and on different devices, Desktop and Laptop.

And furthermore it happens in the Demo installation.
Have a look.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Joffm

Replied by DenisChenu on topic Slider starts at 5 instead of the minimum value
If you don't set anything : it's the default value (start at middle, without set the value if i remind).
Can you export a sample ?

Denis, I am not such a newbie.

Of course I set something:

And here is the full screenshot (I used 0 and 20 to make it clearly visible)

There is an example in the demo installation:

The slider part was never really a clean design.
LimeSurvey should start with more questiontypes, instead of packing more options into one questiontype. The debugging get's more complicated. The backwards compatibility with survey structure might be lost.

Another issue: Set Slider initial value set at start to 0, save, then remove the value to empty. You will still see "Slider initial value set at start: 0" in the question overview info

@Jelo,
Oh, I missed that Tammo e.a. confirmed this in january.

But now I found my misunderstanding: I did not set "slider initial value".
I always thought without this setting it should be the default behaviour to start at the outer left position (if "slider starts in middle position" is not set).

Seems not released ? github.com/LimeSurvey/LimeSurvey/commit/...62213ba6938de6460e81

Yes, but need Optionnable question type : have a admin GUI where can check what question type to be shown in dropdown.

Else : we have a lot of question type :). Really big list …

Since nobody proposed a concept and have a concept, how this slider should work, I don't see a misunderstanding. The bug is still there. You didn't set it to 5. So 5 can never be intended by the developers minds. And question type concepts are missing. LimeSurvey is having a lot of technical debt when it comes to questiontypes. Clean, new questionstypes with one purpose.

A slider questiontype, which has a coherent concept.
I'm still unsure if now the intital value is the answer.
Visual Marker Value vs. touched slider.

15 Min. with other surveytools would allow devs to graps the different concepts.

You are fixing a lot.

Slider is mentioned quite often in ticket. And they stay there. Not closed. Not commented. It's too much to cope with.

bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=13593

Is that now the case? LouisGac in 2016:

I don't remember in detail, but basically: all the options that we need in advanced settings, that are the basic settings available in any slider component (jQuery ones or Bootstrap ones...), should be rewrote entirely from scratch for the HTML5 version.

I remembered this old ticket. Three years old and The comments are worth a short look. bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=10744

I am also in favor of different question types where it makes sense, because people often don't find the options in the settings (also because the settings are not always clear and people don't know what they do).

I'd rather have a long list of questions than having to find out that the slider layout is part of the multi numerical, or that dropdown matrix is part of question type XYZ, etc. Unfortunately the majority of users doesn't read through the manual, especially the question type part. I did that once at the beginning and it helped me a lot to know what exists in LS by default and where certain options are "hidden", but unfortunately, in this case I am probably the exception.

And slider is not the worst : array with checkbox is the worst in my opinion.

Agreed, that is a real hidden gem and if you don't know it exists, you'd probably will never think about it anyway.
