mysql version was created by focussing
my hosting provider currently supports MySQL vs 5.1, the latest version needs MySQL 5.5.3. What most recent older version should I use which will work with MySQL version 5.1?
Thanks on forehand!

2.6lts require only MySQL '4.1'.

If you're a Premium Package Subscriber, you can download the LTS version:

Thank you for your response.

What most recent version in "archived-releases" should I use which will work with MySQL version 5.1?

2.6.2 release : Long Time Support release : security fix inside.
2.5X before LAST release : no security fix inside ....
Alternative : github.com/SondagesPro/LimeSurvey-SondagesPro 2.6.2 + other feature.

None. We released important and critical security fixes since all those old releases.
So if you want to use 2.6, best way is to get the LTS version via the premium package (then you'll can update via comfortUpdate). Else, you can use the github version (like the Denis's one), but you'll have to update manually.

IMHO: the real problem you have is your host provider.

you are right, the problem is the hosting, but I cannot wait for that.
it is a virtual private server which is not updated... :(

a few years ago i used Lime also, and that worked fine with MySQL 5.1
that is why I asked the question...
