For some reason I don't have the option to select Array (flexible labels).

I'm using LimeSurvey 1.9 on LimeService, and I'm also very new to this, so I may be missing something very obvious here, but everything I read seems to assume it's available.

I am looking to create a question which looks like the 'Semantic Differential' example here:
docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...ray_Flexible_Labels_

however, these are the only options I get in the Question Type drop down:
    5 point choice
    Array
    Array (10 point choice)
    Array (5 point choice)
    Array (Increase/Same/Decrease)
    Array (Numbers)
    Array (Texts)
    Array (Yes/No/Uncertain)
    Array Dual Scale
    Array by column
    Boilerplate question
    Date
    Gender
    Huge free text
    Language switch
    List (dropdown)
    List (radio)
    List with comment
    Long free text
    Multiple numerical input
    Multiple options
    Multiple options with comments
    Multiple short text
    Numerical input
    Ranking
    Short free text
    Yes/No

What am I missing?

Many thanks, Richard

OK. I've just answered this for myself. I just found by chance when I was looking for info about subquestions that v1.9 has different question types to v1.8:
docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...ypes+in+version+1.90

Thanks, Rich

Please update our manual accordingly. It's a wiki, you can't do much wrong and every improvement is appreciated.

Thanks, Mazi. Good idea.

There was already a mention at the top of the wiki page, but I had scrolled past it, so have added links to the v1.9 question types directly under the headings of the types which have changed or been removed.

Cheers, Rich

Hello -

I am having the same problem. I would like to use a 5-point array, but change the labels from "1 2 3 4 5" to "Excellent Good Average Fair Poor". I'm having a difficult time trying to find instructions to do this on the wiki site. Is it possible in 1.9, or do I need to revert to an ealier version?

The link in the above post ( docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...ypes+in+version+1.90 ) no longer works, unfortunately.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The question type documentation can be found here: docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...tions+for+LimeSurvey

Try this question type: docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...r+LimeSurvey#F_Array
Just set an empty string as subquestion.

Thank you for the quick reply, Mazi. I'm not sure how to set up an "empty string as a subquestion." Or which main question type to use.

I did a search for "string" on that link you sent but couldn't find anything...

It seems to me like custom labels should be a standard feature because they're so prevalent in surveys, but maybe I'm just not fully understanding everything yet :)

Here comes your question:

Download:

File Attachment:

File Name: limesurvey...3712.lsq
File Size:6 KB

Instructions:

1. Choose question type "array".

2. Define answer options "excellent - poor"

3. Enter a simple space as only subquestion text.

4. At the edit question screen, there is an advanced settings link at the bottom. Set the question attribute answer width to "1", so that the fake answer only takes 1% of the table width.

F_Array is no longer in that page. I also cannot find any documentation or options on how to change the column heading values. This is VERY common in questionnaires and I am puzzled that LimeSurvey does not have this option.
