What was repulsive to them? The captcha itself? The captcha before a welcome message?
You might choose a simple calucation task with a random number to restrict access after the welcome message instead of using a captcha. I'm not aware of a plugin doing a check on the welcome message.
You will need to hide the welcome message and recreate the welcomemessage via textdisplay and question as first questions.
