McTell created the topic: Choose 1 question out of a group
Hey all,

I've got:
50 Groups with ca. 20 quesions each. I set group randomization, and within the group quesions will also be presented.

Question is:
I want the participant to do only 50 Questions. So from each group 1 questions.

What is the best approach?

Thanks in advance!

You could use the relevance equation to display x out of y questions in each group
E.g. if the question names are Q1 to Q10 for Q1 the relevance equation would be:
sum(Q2.relevanceStatus, Q3.relevanceStatus, Q4.relevanceStatus, Q5.relevanceStatus, Q6.relevanceStatus, Q7.relevanceStatus, Q8.relevanceStatus, Q9.relevanceStatus, Q10.relevanceStatus) LT 5

LT 5 would mean 5 out of 10 will be displayed.
The order has to be randomized (so every question in one group has to get the same randomization group name).
Just modify the example to your needs.

Are you a student conducting a survey? If yes, tell me why you use LimeSurvey?

One question; I need to set then for Q2 like:

sum(Q1.relevanceStatus, Q3.relevanceStatus, Q4.relevanceStatus, Q5.relevanceStatus, Q6.relevanceStatus, Q7.relevanceStatus, Q8.relevanceStatus, Q9.relevanceStatus, Q10.relevanceStatus) LT 5

Correct?
If so, the thing is I need to touch every of my 50 files (It will actually be that I get 200 stimuli each group...)

[UPDATE]
Okay, this breaks up my survey in a way, that the radio buttons disappear... weird... is there any solution or other approach?

Make a little demosurvey with e.g 5 questions. and attach it here. What version of limesurvey and build are you using?

Hey guys,

I have been trying to do something similar but I have run into a problem. While the sum() method of the relevance equation using relevanceStatus works fine for normal text questions, I can't get it to work when the questions are 5-point choice arrays (or any array for that matter).

So let's say we use this example of selecting 5 questions out of a possible 10 in the same group. If the question types are text then it works, but if they are array questions then it doesn't (a syntax error box appears on each term in the relevance equation).

Does anyone know how to tackle this?

Thanks in advance

Hmm...I tested and found the same thing. Please file a bug report and...
  1. Give as much information as possible.
  2. Provide step-by-step instructions how to reproduce the problem.
  3. Provide screenshots and/or a sample survey.
  4. Post the link to the bug here so we can follow the progress.

Cheers,
Tony Partner

Thanks for the reply, tpartner.

It is not something incredibly complicated, so there isn't much else I can say. In fact I was just running a dummy survey, before I made the proper one, to test if the idea works and it doesn't. I will try and file the bug report as soon as I find the time, as I assume other people might have the same issue.
