Please help us help you and fill where relevant:
Your LimeSurvey version: 6.01
Own server or LimeSurvey hosting: own server
Survey theme/template:

Hi,
I want to use surveygroups for models and when I add some surveys as models in a group called "Models for Teachers" with surveygroupspermissions "read and export surveys" and a user with permission copies the model-survey then this survey is added to the group "Models for Teachers" - i hope this is a bug.
It would be better to add this copied survey to the default group. When I use different survey models for different user groups (like "Teacher" or "QM agent" or "Trainee") then i will get a big chaos if they all were located in the "Models" group.
Hope somebody can help

Sounds pretty reasonable to me, that a copied survey appears in the same survey group as the survey it was copied from.

I think its very important to offer some surveys as "models" or "templates" for user who want to use established or predefined surveys. But when I offer these surveys in a "model"-group and the user copies some of these models it will create a big mess.
From the perspective of a limesurvey operator with more than 20 active users, it is really necessary that copied templates from the survey group "models" are saved in another group - preferably a user-owned one.

I see tools, where you have the surveylist and then can assign users and groups to each survey. Some use folders to not confuse people with two kind of groups (usergroups and surveygroups).
If I copy a survey the survey is only with my userrights. There is no inheritance of permissions or groups. I would need to assign that again.
A template system is not implemented in LimeSurvey. It could be an template option in a surveygroup.
There might be not one group of templates but more.
Since LimeSurvey Cloud has one LimeSurvey installation per customer the permission concept never had to be that sophisticated. Other SaaS surveytools are one application per server for all customers. They had to build separation and permission deep into the code. And templates are often a bigger part to attract new customers. LimeSurvey never had one-click templates, which then appeared in the LimeSurvey GUI. At least you had to download and import the LSS file.
The meaning of the word "stable" for users

Yes and no. Depends on the concept, if there is onSounds pretty reasonable to me, that a copied survey appears in the same survey group as the survey it was copied from.

I was just saying, that it sounds reasonable. I don't see anything wrong (or it being a bug), that a copied survey appears in the same group. That is all.
Of course there can be different purposes and strategies, but I don't see anything wrong with a copied survey going into the same group as the original one. Just as I don't see a problem or bug if the copied survey would go into the default group. For me personally, it is more logic that generally it would stay in the same group, for general purposes.
But I can totally understand, that if you are focusing on a survey library, that it might be good for the survey to appear somewhere else.
I was just referring to "i hope this is a bug.". I don't see why this might be considered a bug.

My opinion about the best solution
1. Add a dropdown "Survey group"
2. Default to «Same than survey»
3. Can be udated to another one.
Same for import (when we export with group name)

This would really be a very big improvement and would certainly make working with Limesurvey easier for many users.
