Hi, I created a question group consisting of the first "mother" question and many following questions that only show when a certain answer from the "mother" question is selected. The first question is a set of single choice bootstrap buttons. When a button is selected, several questions show up on the same page. Participants can answer them and then select another bootstrap button. The questions which showed up by clicking the first bootstrap button disappear and other questions, depending ob the second bootstrap button show up, and participants can answer them as well.

When re-selecting the first button while taking the survey, the answers are still there. But: Only the answers from the questions connected the last selected bootstrap button are saved, meaning they show up in the data export. I already figured my question group is a shitty way to design a survey, but is there any chance that all answers are saved in this scenario?

You need to set deletenonvalues to 0 manual.limesurvey.org/Optional_settings/en#Survey_behavior

You can use DeletenonvaluesBySurvey plugin to set it via admin GUI and by survey

With the plugin, I could set it specifically by survey, meaning that other surveys on the server will be unaffected, right?

Yes and set it without editing application/config/congig.php , in 5.X : you can upload a plugin.

If the respondent can click several buttons and then answer the following questions,
why don't you use a multiple question as "mother"?

Afterwards one page for each "child' group.

It's a design thing; i want participats to be more flexible and feel like they can go back and forth, skipping through questions without being restricted. But I understand that yout solution would be the far more logical setup.

Ah thanks, sometimes it's hard to get what you mean when given just a single keyword. Because of the experimental nature of my study it's not an option to let participants go back to previous areas of the survey, but thanks anyway and have a nice day.
