Error while searching for images to add to survey description

Hello together,

i'm facing another little issue, which i can't solve at the moment. I don't know, what the problem is.

I wanted to write my survey description and add 2 pictures here, which I placed on the server before. When I'm opening the image editor and use "search on server", I get the following message in a pop up:

"Cannot find any of the supported PHP image extensions!"

I'm pretty sure that this is happening because something was set up wrong on my server, where limesurvey is installed.
Can someone help me, as I am not a professional when it comes to server setups.

Thanks.

Seems gd (or gd2) is not installed on your php version. Strangely i think we test it when installing.

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I am running this on a virtual machine with ubuntu and PHP 6.5 .

You may be right, because this was another issue I have faced. When I wanted to see the statistic in expert mode, it always said: GD-library not installed. I wasn't able to see the graphical statistics of my survey.

So I tried to install the GD library with:

apt-get install php7-gd

Unfortunately, same situations. Still says that I haven't installed the library and can't browse by image.
Do i have to do something in Limesurvey to make this GD active or something?

Thanks a lot for your help.
I wanted to start my survey on tuesday, but this issue delays that. :-(

You installed the gd extension for PHP 7 but running PHP 5.6.
So you will have to install the gd extension for PHP 5.X to let LimeSurvey use it.

Something seems to be a bit strange with my php.
My VM (I didn't set this one up) has ubuntu 16 and php 7.x is required there.
The installation of php5-gd is failing. So i have installed php7.

When i look at the phpinfo(); on limesurvey (global settings), I see PHP version 5.6.X.
I don't have a clue why.

For any reason, i can't install the right GD extension.

It is quite common to have more than one php version running on one server.
The webserver is using PHP 5.6. You accessed the CLI version of PHP, which is PHP 7.X.

The question is how the PHP support of the webserver was installed. It is not always the case that these components are installed via apt-get. Ask the one who set up the VM.
The complete phpinfo may give some hints how things are setup.

Thank you.

I'm new to php stuff and the responsibles aren't reachable that often.
Is there an easy way to make it possible installing all relevant plugins via terminal (apt-get)?
How can I install the features for php5 if I can't do it via apt-get?

Or let me ask the other way round:
Is it possible to make limesurvey use the php7 version?

I know nothing about the environment that is installed. You stated that you couldn't install the gd extension.
What command did you use? What was the error message. Attach the phpinfo here to get a hint what kind of webphp combo is running.

This all has nothing to do with Limesurvey. It is a post which should appear in the Ubuntu forums.
Ubuntu 16 LTS is shipped with PHP 7 as default. Since the webserver is using PHP 5.6 someone invested time to get PHP 5.6 compiled on that VM. You might see stuff under /usr/local/src/php5-build/

If you still want to try changing PHP 5.6 to PHP 7 for your webserver you can some ideas here for both ways:
