Ranking Question Help was created by meeko434
Hello, I am a newbie and I need some help. I was a little afraid to ask because I have read the post on "Ranking Questions" but I still can't get my question to set up correctly. I am setting up a ranking question in "Array" question type. I want my question to be like this www.surveymonkey.com/s/3P7NBRG where users can only select one option and those options are not to be the same. I have no experience with Java Script, so is there anyway I can get my questions to be set up like this. Also, in my questions there is an "other" option with that other option I want users to be able to type in what that option is, is there anyway to add a text box to an array question. Thank you so much and all help is appreciated!!

There was a recent thread that was treading exactly with this. I am not sure if you are referring to this thread, as you did not put the link to it.

I don't think that you can put an "other" option to an array question. This is how it looks like:

Here a working example:

I don't think this exists in LS. You will probably have to ask "other" before in an other question and then pipe it into the array or ranking question.

Thank you I will try that! Also, from the thread I post I used the unique(self) command so that users can only just one option per column but it is not working..I am doing something wrong? Also, I listed several options in the question but only want users to choose 3 when I previewed the questions it is asking users to rank all the options how can I get only three options to be chosen?

Try to download the question that i provided. It worked in my in installation. What version of LS do you use?

My example is for choosing all options.

Not sure how to make it work with only 3 of 5.

Also, I listed several options in the question but only want users to choose 3

In that case an array question wouldn't work because there is no way to deselect a radio if the respondent makes a mistake.

What question type do you recommend? I only want users to choose their top 3 out of 7 choices.

I would use the core ranking question - manual.limesurvey.org/Question_type_-_Ranking

If you are really only after the top 3 and it is not important who is 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you could use a multiple choice question and limit the answer options to max. 3 and minimum 3.
