db and Limesurvey on different servers was created by rvenkat
Is it a problem to have the MySQL database and Limesurvey on different servers?
We want to do that for different reasons.
I am pointing to the right IP and providing the correct database details, but database connection
is failing. All required ports are open.
Does anyone have experience with a setup where the database is on a different server?
Thanks.

Hello,
in this old post (spanish forum) LS user @aresmiguel achieve this...
Its ultimate feedback was to confirm that you have to install SQL native client in the device where LS is installed, so maybe you have to check that all db required drivers are available.

Ben_V, thank you for the response. From what I know, all the drivers are there.
Normally db and web application are on different servers for security purposes. So far I have used Limesurvey either in my university (where I have nothing to do with the installation) or on hosted servers. Now we are going for a larger setup. For security reasons, we want to keep the database on a separate server. I am surprised that this may not work with Limesurvey. If anyone else has experience with this, I'd like to hear from them.
Thanks.
