People are telling me they can't start the survey because it's hard for them to find the small checkbox required to be checked to agree to the terms.

Granted - this survey is being conducted at a senior's residence where eyesight isn't the best but it's the population I work with, so would like to accommodate them.

Can the size of the checkbox be altered such that it is a) larger and b) has a color border?

But the OP (original poster) is right about the checkbox being different from other places where checkboxes are being used. I think it should be generated in the same way as the other checkboxes.

Personnaly : i think updating checkbox view is a bad solution … make it clearly inside a button with the label : really beter.

Well, I do quite like the awesome checkbox, but then all checkboxes should be awesome.

In your survey you use "normal" checkboxes.

Please also look at the way a checked li is rendered (in your example). When I look at it, the most recently checked li is grey, not blue.

When a bug is reported : i can make a pull request

I'm not quiet sure if it's a bug, but it would be nice to accommodate people with vision disabilities, which is how it's impacting my study.

Others may see that differently. Would it help if I call this a "bug" and then make it be an official "bug report"?

It certainly fulfills it's mission to accept the check-mark, but seems to me to be more fo a design function that a bug.
