Hi,

I am looking to create a survey where the user will give a 1-5 answer for each question

'Key: 1 = Never 2 = Rarely 3 = Sometimes 4 = Usually 5 = Always' etc

I am wondering if Lime Survey can work out the following and give the user a result

1. Sum the responses on items 1, 5, 9. Then subtract your response to item 13. This is your score for Be Self Aware.
2. Sum the responses on items 2, 6, 10. Then subtract your response to item 14. This is your score for Be Genuine.
3. Sum the responses on items 3, 7, 15. Then subtract your response to item 11. This is your score for Be Considered.
4. Sum the responses on items 4, 8, 16. Then subtract your response to item 12. This is your score for Do the Right Thing.

If so, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this, a article or post as I am unable to find anything

You might create your own counting system or use assessments.

You can use ExpressManager (will be be called ExpressionScript in the future) to script text depending on values.

The expression manager is "located" basically all over your Limesurvey installation.

It allows you to use expressions, which are certain placeholders and formulas that allow you to taylor things.

So you can basically read out which response was given, give each response a value and add them up.

You can combine it with assessment values and read those assessment values of the given responses and sum these up via an expression and save it into a equation type question. For example. I would have a read about assessments and about expression manager.

But with your scale from 1-5 and the respective points you can just use the answer codes and work with them. No need to use the assessment values.

Thank you - I was looking for a separate coding editor and now realised that you can just add expressions in the text editors.

I am still having trouble summing up/ adding up the values up via expression.
Q1:shown Q2:shown etc. is displaying the responses made

However {sum(Q1,Q2)} and
{sum(Q1.NAOK,Q2.NAOK,Q3.NAOK)} doesn't seem to work as just outputs 0.

Please can you advise what I might be doing wrong?

We have no way of answering that without knowing your survey structure and question/sub-question/answer codes.
