A local project has asked if it is possible to have LimeSurvey running standalone on Windows laptops -- they want each fieldworker to use a survey-like system for data collection. I'm not a Windows person, so I have no idea if this is a viable concept. Has anyone ever done it? Securely?

Hello,
yes you just have to install previously a local server in every computer (ie. WAMP) as more or less described here .

It is possible to install limesurvey on a windows laptop. You would have to install apache and mysql using wampserver or xammpp. It works, but it is not the way a multi user system is intended to work. Limesurvey does not run "standalone", it runs multi user on each laptop separately

Thank you both very much. It doesn't matter about multiuser; each laptop will have only one user, and so long as they can extract the CSV data after each day's gathering, and send it off by email, that will do. "Standalone" simply referred to this 1:1 ratio, not to the system's mode of operation.

I think the user's request had more to do with the robustness of the system and the user-friendliness of the survey-style interface. Better than having a bespoke system developed.

Just out of curiosity I tried to install limesurvey on a android tablet. That appeared to be unexpectedly simple. See message #98577. On a laptop it must be equally simple.

On a Laptop it should even be simpler, especially when using a Windows OS, since we offer a complete WAMPP package of Limesurvey + PHP + MySQL which is easy to set up.
