What setting is that? Can you post the part which you changed to log?

Ok,
I maybe wasn't exact in the expression, i meant the debug feature, in the config file i set the value as follows:

// Debug Settings
$debug = 1; // Set this to 1 if you are looking for errors. If you still get no errors after enabling this
// then please check your error-logs - either in your hosting provider admin panel or in some /logs dir
// on your webspace.
// LimeSurvey developers: Set this to 2 to circumvent the restriction to remove the installation directory
// or to change the password. If you set it to 3 then PHP STRICT warnings will be shown additionally.

In fact, i am not interested in logging only, some clients suffer of sudden problems while filling their forms, and i need to know what is the source of the problem.

This setting doesn't activate a dedicated logfileroutine for Limesurvey.
The error messages from php would be displayed in the browser.

If you still get no errors after enabling this
// then please check your error-logs -

If you still get NO error after enabling this, which seems to be the case here,

then please check your error-logs.

Which logfiles?

]either in your hosting provider admin panel or in some /logs dir on your webspace.[/quote

Which and where these logfiles will be created can only be answer by the admin of the system.

The PHP error handling is described here:
www.php.net/manual/en/errorfunc.configuration.php

First check, if "error_log" files are created in your webspace. They are mostly created by the webserver/php duo.

If you using a Linux VPS you will be able to find logfiles in the system.
/var/log/ is most common. The logfiles for your webserver can be placed there under /var/log/httpd .

Sorry, only the one who installed the webserver, php etc know exactly what you can find where.

Thank you very much for the details, in fact i have full access on the dedicated server where i have installed this system, but i was looking for a Limesurvey logs, which would help in debugging any internal problems, not generic PHP problems!
isn't logging supported in LimeSurvey?!?!?!

I am not aware of such a function.

The setting in the config is useful to display errormessages which are suppressed on productive systems. The display can be redirected into a textfile. That will be all handled by php
php.net/manual/en/errorfunc.configuration.php

A logfile with entries like "limesurveyuser john doe is now on page x etc" is not provided - as least I never seen one.

Thank you for your help,
I really wonder how logging isn't included! i am not speaking exactly about: user X is doing something, but speaking about : Session has been expired, survey has been filled or aborted, etc..

Anyway, hope the community would work on this as it's interesting.

I have the same problem. I'm uploading a new survey XML file which looks ok on the editor but when I import into limesurvey I get the message "Import failed. You specified an invalid file type" which is not very specific so i looked for the lime survey logs to see if that could shed some light. Lo and behold, there isn't any!

1. Which Limesurvey version do you use?

2. Does importing a non edited .LSS file work fine when creating a new survey?

3. What did you change at the file and which tool did you use?

4. Please switch on debug mode by adding the following line to your config.php file:
$debug = '1';

Are there any additional errors reported on top of the page when importing the edited file?
