Invitations never arrive

Hi,
I finished my first survey and sent an invitation to an email of mine with a token.
Everything seems fine but the invitation never arrived.
I tried with another email but I have the same issue.

Did somebody already got this problem before and could find a solution?

What kind of method do you use for sending the emails?

Does this work with other applications on the server? Because maybe there are no emails sent, this could be why they are not arriving.

What happens when yo switch to SMTP?

1. Which Limesurvey version do you use?

2. Please switch on debug mode by adding the following line to your config.php file:
$debug = '1';

Are there any additional errors reported on top of the page?

Hello and thank you for your answers.

- I use the Version 1.90+ Build 9160.

When I send the email i get this message:

Sending invitations...
(Sending to token ID: 2)
Invitation sent to: XXXX Lauren (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)


It seems normal isn't it?

- There is no error displayed on the top page.

- I didn't try SMTP, I don't know to configure this. Have I really more chances to be able to send emails using SMTP?

I'd guess the emails are placed at some spam folders or something like that. If the email fails, there'd be an error message.

Try using different sender and receiver addresses for further testing.

I think, if you use a legitimate SMTP server you should have less chances to be marked as spam.

For example, the spam filter in our company checks the correct configuration of the email server who sent the email. I think the normal php mail function (not sure about this) at some hosters might not be configured properly to all the standards. So this would cause trouble already here.

I tested with the smtp email and checked the spam folders but I didn't receive anything.
I really don't understand anything!
And no errors appear!

You can test if this is fixed at the latest version by testing our online Demo at Demo.limesurvey.org/admin (external link) which always runs the latest Limesurvey version.
Username: admin
Password: test
If you can reproduce the problem there please report back.

It says that the mail wasn't sent because the Demo mode is activated.
Is it possible to test the email sending in this mode?

Obviously not, but I can say that emailing at the latest 1.90 version does work fine for 99.9% of our users, otherwise there would be much more complaints.

I can only recommend to either use our hosting service at www.LimeService.com or ask an experienced Limesurvey developer to have a look at your system.
