Editing Template

Hi All

I made a copy of the basic template. I do not understand how to edit the template i copied. I can not figure out how to edit any of the content (words, pictures etc)

On the left i can see a list of standard files (.pstpl)
Under the standard files i can see a list of javascript and css files
on the right i see a list of other files (.jpgs, pngs, .txt, .ico, etc.)

I was messing around and managed to get my name to appear on the output because i typed it next to {WELCOME} somewhere in the code. :woohoo:

Well, editing templates requires a certain knowledge in HTML and CSS.

Every "page" has a certain amount of template files. Those are the ones that you see on the left. To understand how the templating system of LS works, have a look at the documentation. There is a table to understand the structure of the templates.

I found the documentation here

docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...tions+for+LimeSurvey

but i still do not know where to find the files i need to be editing. I copied the basic template and wanted to use that to get a feel for the editing. I read about common.php and index.php files; are these some of the files i will need to be editing?

There is not much we can do besides pointing you to the correct documentation. Some CSS/HTMskills are essential for creating a valid customized template that runs in all browsers.

One of our Google Code in students created a brand new video tutorial:

What do you mean with "how do we login to the limesurvey database"?

Looking at the number of different issues posted by you in the last days, I am getting the impression that it might be easier for you to use something like www.limeservice.com/ .

a colleague of mine is who asked; i should have clarified what she meant first. We are looking into housing the survey tool ourselves as part of our evaluation amongst other products; we are just trying to get up and going so we can see what LimeSurvey can really do the online documentation isn't that in depth hence why i asked some of what i have asked

Well, I consider the online documentation pretty detailed (quite a few of your answers are included there). However, I can understand that sometimes it is quite difficult to find those things. It is just that there are so many basic question, that could be solved via the manual, so I was wondering if it wouldn't be easier for you guys to let someone do the server part for you.

However, it is still not clear to me, what you want to know when you ask "how do we login to the limesurvey database?".

Well, this something that we can't answer, because it depends on your server. You should ask the person that is responsible for the server where Limesurvey is running.

Often you have access to the database via PHPmyAdmin, but this depends on your setup of course.

Now that you have received several - hopefully useful - answers, please add everything you learned to our manual.
It's a wiki, everybody can edit it and we need our users' help to extend/clarify the documentation.

Thanks!
