TOPIC: Disaster..a question is being left out

Disaster..a question is being left out 6 years 1 day ago #47596

Hi, I've reported this on the bug tracker, but posting here as I could really do with quick tips on a fix or workaround.

bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=4564

A question appears fine in printable view, but has not been displayed on the on-line version of the questionnaire or in the results.

I've tried exporting an lss and re-importing, but the question doesn't appear on-line, questionnaire activated or not, despite appearing fine in the printable version.

I've got a few days and hopefully a few respondents left so I would be IMMENSELY grateful for a fast workaround/tip, if possible without having to deactivate as I'd lose people's part-completed responses, which I want to use as an excuse to chase people.

Any ideas pleease?

Did you use any conditions on this question?
Have a look at the manual! It is a really valuable source for information. Here some helpful links:

I can't see what might be wrong. Did you try to delete the question and set it up from scratch?

Do you use some kind of additional CSS code in the template.css file of your template which might hide the question?

Thanks, excellent question. Just confirmed and there are no conditions (nor anywhere in the questionnaire), and when I click on the conditions icon for the question, it says "This question is always shown."

I just added the question manually and it does appear.

Thanks again Mazi.

If you do find a fix that doesn't require deactivating, pls let me know either in a note on the bug or here. I'm keen to avoid deactivating because it would mean losing my part-completed answers, (a third of my total), which I hope to use as an excuse to chase people up. (Q1 is email address!)

As far as I can remember, I created the questions, then put them into sections, then re-ordered them, in case that helps identify where the error happened. I don't remember anything special about this question, and I've plenty other ranking questions working fine.

(I've added this to the bug too.)

Thanks as ever for the sanity check though, really appreciate it.

I'm happy to create the answer table column manually if anyone finds out what is missing about the question and it is fixable.

Apparently this is fixed in 1.90+.

Does anyone have any idea what the fix is?

Presumably as the answer columns haven't been created in my database, if I upgrade now the survey will break.

Did this also happen when you checked the questionnaire before the field start?

I believe so, although I didn't tick off the questions, I just ran through the questions to check validation, layout, save for later, etc - it didn't cross my mind that a question might be missing entirely.

What about exporting the results that you have received already, then deactivate the survey, then include the missing question and later join the results tables for analysis?

That is what I'm doing at the moment, but it is the part completed answers I'm most concerned with, which are nearly half my (oh so precious) responses!

If no-one can identify the fix in 1.9+ then I intend to manually enter the incomplete responses, save them for 'resuming', then distribute the username/pwds.

Be a lot easier if I could just add the answer column and fix the data and/or code in-situ though. Project is already a month behind so could do without a day of data entry!

As an aside though, to balance all this grumbling, my research would never have got off the ground at all were it not for limesurvey.

From what I have read so far the only reason for the question not to appear might be the changed question order.
Maybe you can check the question order of section 2 in the database if you find something obvious like two questions sharing the same order ID or the like.

Hi, thanks so much for the tip.

I don't want to use more of your precious time, but just in case it triggers an idea - the sort order is fine but one odd thing is that the sub-questions (ie, answer options) are not in the lime_questions table, as others seem to, just lime_answers. They do appear when I edit them in the admin site.

Sorry, ignore that, none of the ranking questions appear in the questions table.
