Survey terminal and limiting repetition: validating uniqueness of results was created by collectek
Hello,
I am working on a survey solution for my library and I am needing some ideas for ensuring uniqueness of data input from a single terminal
The scenario: If the library made a change, we can have a simple 2-3 button survey to collect results regarding the change. This will be done through a single self-hosted survey terminal in a central location and easily accessible to the patrons.
Limiter needed: Patrons can frequent often and as such we only want a patron to vote once. At the very least we want to deter a patron from constantly voting and "stuffing the ballot". On the same note, it needs to simple enough that the patron doesn't go to vote and then be required to input a bunch of data that would deter a vote.
Thoughts: incentive like a giveaway could be possible... that would require something like an email... survey should be anonymous but honestly I believe it comes down to the human layer and what physical limits are imposed or physical placement. Paper systems with something like a code is not an option at the moment...
Thank you in advance!

Well, you can use tokens, sent to the respondents via email.

OK. This wasn't clear from your first post, especially with this:
Then you just pass on the token in another way (printed on a paper). But I assume that you rule this out with this phrase:
Maybe besides the option that they have to register. This option is included in Limesurvey, but you could register more than once. But if they have an official email from the institution, which is unique, you could use this to make sure that they only respond once, because I think each email can only be registered once.
But then, this would make responses idenfiable.
If this is not an option, I see little that you could do.
Maybe someone else has an idea.

I don't see any other alternative besides the registration holch mentioned.

would something like 'public registration' work out here!?
see: www.limesurvey.org/en/forum/design-issue...ic-registration-page
and: manual.limesurvey.org/Creating_a_new_survey
If I read this correctly, I could require an email and populate the firstname+lastname with 'library user'. The registration will used to create a token and if anonymous, the user will not be identifiable.
Now I need to find out how I can:
(a) have a user register
(b) have registered user login automatically if form is filled out
(c) have 'notice' if registered user has already used token - then return to initial page
(d) have user automatically logged off upon survey completion
