I have a multi choice question with two answer options (q1_1 and q1_2). I dont want respondent to select both answer options together.I can not make it a single choice question as well. Can someone please suggest me a Boolean equation for this that would work in Question validation equation ?

((q1_1 != "Y") || (q1_2 != "Y")) :)

Why not just setting "max answers" to "1" at the advanced question settings?!

I agree, this would be a perfect and quick solution is this situation.But if we have more than 2 check boxs and we don't want any two or more desired check boxes to be be checked together then my equation would be a better solution.Can we perform the later task in any other way?:)

I agree that for special issues you need to use a different solution. Use the question validation (does that question type support this?) with a valid EM euqation and you should be fine.
