Unchecking radio buttons was created by tpphilipp
Hello,

is there a possibility to uncheck (deselect) radio buttons in a question, e. g. if they are checked accidentally. I have a dual scale array in my survey and the participants should fill out the left OR the right column. Looks like this:

If you check one of the radio buttons in one of the columns it is "on" forever. I have searched around awhile but did not find any solutions, except to activate the "no answer"-option which would lead to confusion for the participants. A dual scale array with checkboxes is not available (which would be a solution).

Any suggestions?

Thx in advance,
Thomas

If you don't make the question mandatory you can 'uncheck' it to 'No answer'.

Best regards

Thank you Carsten!

But that would mean I have to activate the "No answer"-option, wouldn't it? So I would have a fifth answer option in my given example? What I would like to avoid because I guess that would encourage the participants to click all the "No answer"-options in the column which they should just leave blank.

Thx in advance,
Thomas

Dear Thomas,
I have the same problem / question. Did you already find a solution?
Thanks!
Jolanda.

I think this is a common problem/characteristics of the checkboxes, that you can't uncheck them.

What you could try is to join two arrays with checkboxes as described in the workaround section (a general workaround for mixing questiong types).

Hello,

there are several js-workarounds floating around although I could not find one that was working for me (for dual matrix array, not for joining two arrays). I have "solved" it by using a help text for the question, telling the users they should not care if they accidentally click a radio button in the wrong column because this will be cleared during the interpretation of data.

The best solution would be if something like array numbers (text input) with using the checkbox-option in the advanced settings would be implemented for dual scale array.

Greetings, Thomas

This should work for joing most of the available question types.
