error message on attempt to import question

Sorry, importing questions is limited to the same version. Import failed.

I have downloaded an array in order to manually sort the 150 list items in then Excel spreadsheet. I try to upload the file using the Import feature, but I get the error message posted above.

The import worked at one point when I attempted to upload the same file to a test survey without sorting.
So there must be some tiny glitch, but I checked every detail and cannot find it.
The only change to the .csv file is the sort order of the 'answers" on the array.
Any clues to the meaning of this error message?

Do NEVER open or edit files with Excel. Excel breaks the internal data structure which is probably the reason why the import fails.

It might be far easier to copy the list from Excel and then use the quick add feature to add answer options and paste the list there.

There is a new Excel import/export format (distinct from the traditional .lss format), but as Mazi said, if you're simply trying to re-order 150 list items, the quick-add feature is the easiest solution.

Thank you. I tried opening the file in Libre office. Still did not work, but the error message changed to telling me my file was not a Lime Survey question file. Guess I will keep trying or sort the list manually.

If it is only for inserting the item you could always use the quick insert feature of the newer versions of LS. Not solving the actual problem, but probably even better and quicker.
