I am thinking of using lime survey for PHD research, but i was curious about certain results required for the research. Will i be able to see how long it takes my respondents to answer the question and/or how long they spend on each survey.

1) To record the time a respondent views a page you will need to use JavaScript to load a hidden question with the elapsed time.

2) In Survey properties-->General settings-->Notification & data management, you can set "Timestamp?" to "Yes". This will give you the survey start time and submit time in the data.

Since Limesurvey 1.91 there is a timing feature. You can export timing data for each question but of course the data depends on the survey mode. Data for each question will be available if you use question by question mode.
