in the template.css, search and edit the following CSS classes:
.error
.errormandatory
.warningjs

For example for the (1.91) default template it's (+/- line 280):
.error,.errormandatory,.warningjs {
  color: red;
}

Another question regarding the subject. Is there an easy way to hide the entire
HELP statement unless the validation turns out to be FALSE? In other words, the warning(help) statement only appears in red when validation fails. Your advice is very much appreciated.

Hello,

Trye something like that (if your {HELP} was in a div class="survey-question-help" )
.survey-question-help{display:none}
.input-error .survey-question-help{display:block}
