Error code when attempting to import survey

I have a user who is trying to back up her survey. She said she exported the survey, then tried to import it immediately after that. She is getting this error message-
<Success!
File upload succeeded.

Reading file..

Error
Import of this survey file failed
File does not contain LimeSurvey data in the correct format.>

Am I missing something? I'm not exactly sure what the problem is and she is overseas on sabbatical, so I can't have her come in and talk about it with her. I hope it's something I'm overlooking....something simple. I am using version 1.85+(7636). If you need it I can post the whole e-mail. Thanks.

Anybody else have this problem? This is from her new e-mail today...
"I am then finding "new" surveys in my list of selections: these "new" surveys have the same name as the one I'm trying to copy, but they appear only to contain copies of the first page or two, not the entire original survey"

Please switch on debug mode by adding the following line to your config.php file:
$debug = '1';

Are there any additional errors reported on top of the page?

Tel her to not open the survey after export. Mostly .CSV files are opened with Excel and Excel breaks the internal data format.

Does she need to do this or do I need to do it through the admin account?

The debug issue has to be doen by someone having FTP access to the server so he can add that setting to config.php file.

Not opening the exported file is her issue.

Let me ask you this-what is the right way to back up a survey? This person wants to back up the original survey-I'm not sure why. It sounds like she wants it to fall back on if she modifies the one she's running and doesn't like how it turns out. I am going to suggest she do a pilot survey to see if that gets the results she requires.

You can create a complete database backup (which only makes sense if theere are only some very few users/surveys).
Survey structure can be exported and later imported so that can be used as a backup.
As for survey results there are several export options of which VV export/import is the only one that allows you to import data into the survey again.
