Without knowing what type of database you have, I can give you a general answer. I use a mySQL query to calculate the difference between the startdate and the submitdate fields in the LimeSurvey table for the survey.

I answer at the LimeSurvey forum in my spare time, I'm not a LimeSurvey GmbH employee.

This would be a nice feature I think. Could this be implemented into the core?

Yes, I noticed that it does keep track of start time and submit time. It would be really nice if the software itself calculated the time.
I can write my own code to calculate it if needed. However I noticed that if you go in as an admin and edit any record set of answers, it clears the submitdate and marks that survey as not complete, even if you have it marked to completed, so I'll have to use the datestamp field instead of the submitdate since that doesn't change, and it is the last recorded action of the user taking the survey.
thanks,
Chad

Once it is enabled there will be another icon at the browse response screen which shows statistics about the timings. Timings can further be exported to CSV.

The start and end time are recorded in the results. So this is already included in the data, when you set it up for recording the times. Just substract the end time from the start time...

The start time and end time are the same in the database. Beside that is limesurvey can calculate the difference. Then we can know it through the browser database.
