Ranking using array (number)?

I have 6 choices. I need to have survey respondents rank ONLY their top 3 of the 6 choices. I set it up with an array (number) with the y-scale the 6 choices, and the x-scale as a column called "Rank" with drop-down options 1, 2, 3. I need the respondent to be able to only use the Rank 1 once, the Rank 2 once, and the Rank 3 once and then there will be 3 choices with no ranking.

First - am I using the right feature; second - is there some kind of code to use to make this happen? I know I would probably need to code something in the template side.

Help!

Why don't you use the question type 'Ranking' ?

The creator of the survey thinks that the ranking option might be too difficult for some users to understand. I was hoping to try for the "look" of the array (numbers), it seems much cleaner. If I can't find something online to help me set it up, I would have to default to the ranking option.

Ups, not really a solution.

I guess I could try that, I did read about it in the manual, but I was a bit confused if I could lock the responses - i.e., as you show, i CANNOT allow the respondent to select the same response twice - each ranking of 1, 2, and 3 has to be for a unique question.

As I said, it is not really a solution. I thought I had the solution, but when you look at my example, it won't fit your needs. That's why I deleted the text I first had...
