Hi Everyone,

Quick question here, as I am little confused. I have tried looking through the manual to see if there is an answer there, but did not find anything conclusive.

Just done a new install, of 3.7.1 out of the box using Softculous.

I have one survey, and that is it. I have extended the Bootstrap theme, and using the extended theme for my survey.

The initial install instructions suggest I need a mnimum of 180mb, which I have. What I was not expecting was to see 474mb being used.

A deeper look shows that 50% of this is made up of the tmp directory.

$ du -sh ./*/
12K ./admin/
65M ./application/
58M ./assets/
3.4M ./docs/
30M ./framework/
21M ./locale/
88K ./plugins/
724K ./tests/
9.7M ./themes/
47M ./third_party/
242M ./tmp/
276K ./upload/

My instinct would be to remove the files in the tmp directory, but wanted to check in with some more experienced users first before doing this and finding I have messed up my install - as I have an "active" survey under way.

TIA

242M in temp seems a lot. Is this directly after installation? Or are there already surveys running? LS creates relatively big session files which, depending on your configuration, might be saved in the tmp folder. What are the files that you see in the tmp folder?

Oh, I just see that you are running a survey. So this is probably due to the session files stored in tmp. You might want to look into the time how long a session is stored and when the they are deleted from the tmp folder.

Do you have a big sample?

I answer at the LimeSurvey forum in my spare time, I'm not a LimeSurvey GmbH employee.

Thank you for a quick response :)

The tmp directory looks like this

241M ./assets/
904K ./runtime/
8.0K ./upload/

The assets directory contains loads of subdirectories, which looks like a sort of hash key .....

The majority have a timestamp from the install, there are five directories updated today.

All settings are set to default, the only change I have made is to extend the bootstrap theme to use some local CSS for the survey.

In essence, it is "straight out of the box".

Thanks I will have a look at that. I could understand this if the site had been running a while, but to find all these assets from a clean refresh install is puzzling.

Even more puzzling, my development site (sitting on a PC) is only 255mb. However, that is with 3.16.

I wonder if this is an issue resulting from the Softculous install process?

Anywhere, off to look at my version.php file :)

We don't know what's doing the softaculous script.
you should ask them. You're paying for it.
