Messages goes to spam was created by ordogz
Hi,

I've upgraded from version 2 to version 3.18(latest one) with comfortupdate.
My surveys works well, outside the fact, that all the messages generated( invitations, end messages, basic admin messages) goes to the recipient's spam folder.
Furthermore, the office365 mail server not even showing any received message.

All these were working fine within version 2.xx of the LimeSurvey edition.

In the global settings is setup with PHP mail sending option, and the admin email is an office 365 email account, which is handled completely separatelly from the hosting server.

I have to mention, that I'm using a VPS server with PLESK, and the limesurvey is installed for a subdomain as a folder: sub.domain.com/limesurvey .
Do I need to setup something in the server?

Please advice me on what to do in this case,
Thanks.

Sending mass emails is a sensitive topic and there are many points where this can go wrong. Not that it might not possible that this is a LS problem, I'd rather think it is a problem with your server configuration or email configuration.

My guess would be the sending via PHP. This is NEVER a good option, because it lacks a lot of security measures, that many modern email servers request from sending email servers in order to receive email from them.

I would try to use the SMTP sending option, which should make it much less prone to being flagged as spam by the receiving server.

There are quite a few posts here in the forum on how to avoid that your emails are flagged as spam. However, there are so many factors to take into account. It is a science in itself.

Thank you for the prompt response!

If I have to set up the SMTP sending option, what data should I put here?

The subdomain which is used for the LimeSurvey folder is different from my admin office365 email account( different domain name).

Under the hosting server, I don't use any email accounts for the specific subdomain.

I'm thinking on what SMTP account should be used here.

I'm thinking on what SMTP account should be used here.

The SMTP account that you want the emails to be sent from.

This could be any SMTP account and you include the data just as you would include it in an email client like MS Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

However, if I recall correctly, the Office 365 are tricky. I think they do not use the standard SMTP approach and thus cause a little bit of trouble sometimes.

But if you search the forum, you'll should find a couple of threads that talk about how to setup SMTP and also probably about the problems with Office 365.

What I find strange is that the problem did not occur with the previous version (which version 2 by the way? there are various branches of LS 2, there is the 2.6.x LTS and then there is the 2.7x version).

Thank you for your response,

Well, I think it was 2.6, then I upgraded to the 2.7 and then to 3 with three comfort keys.

Anyway, I'll try to set up the office365 account to the SMTP

office365 need
From == Sender == smtp account

Then you must set all emails to your smtp account email.

There are a feature about this.
Feature fixed in 4.0 github.com/LimeSurvey/LimeSurvey/tree/de...ins/mailSenderToFrom

For 3.X , you need this plugin gitlab.com/SondagesPro/mailing/eventBeforeTokenEmailExtended before.
After another plugin can set the From == Sender == Smtp
(or you can hack the plugin (or LimeSurvey))
