Getting a lot of Partial Responses

Hello everyone,

I have installed a self-hosted installation of Limesurvey on our server, and have initiated a survey and sent email invites to over 20,000 participants.

After a couple of weeks, I noticed that there are a lot of partial responses, actually they are most of the responses that came in and are partial..

Could the reason be because of the specifications of the server that may be causing parhaps an outage of the service to the survey participants?

Please see attached image to see the the ratio between the responses (completed vs. partial).

I know for sure that a lot of the participants are interested in taking the survey, but at some point there is something wrong going on. I would also like to know if there is a log stored somewhere in the installation directory to be able to examine the causes of this.

I would appreciate any help on this serious matter.

Best Regards,
Hadi

A 25% completion rate is a little low but not that unusual depending on the survey.

I doubt it is a server issue with only a couple of hundred responses.

If the survey is very long or complex you will naturally get drop-outs.

In the exported data you can see the lastpage that respondents completed. I would look at that to try and see where and why most people quit.

Hi tpartner,

Thank you so much for your prompt response.

I would like to share with you an export of the data. It will include everything, and hope it would shed some light..
In Column "C", I can see the last page visited is sometimes -1 or 0, which is kind of unusual..

Many Thanks again.

Regards
Hadi

Those people simply did not start the survey.

Thank you Tony for your response.

What about the others that reached Pages 1 and 2?

Can you please explain to me?

Hadi

Well, those people quit after seeing pages(groups) 2 and 3. I cannot offer any more insight without any information about your survey.

Cheers,
Tony Partner

I will be glad to give you access to the survey.

In short, the survey is addressed to investors that fall in one of two categories: Domestic and Foreign Investors, upon defning the investor category, the participant is first requested to fill in their information, and then goes to the next page where they are askied 30 multiple choice questions, and that's it.

If you like I can give you access to check the survey backend.

Would that work?

Sorry, I don't have time to do that on a volunteer basis but, to be honest, if I was presented with 30 questions in a single page, I might be inclined to quit as well.

Hi, hmjundi,

there isn't much to analyze.
There is no problem of Limesurvey. You got all answers, didn't you?
The respondents just didn't want to continue.
Calculating the time the the respondents used you see that the average time to fill the questionnaire is about 12 min.
And you see that many closed their browser after 1 min. (seeing the first page).

And you have to consider: How many companies did you invite?
Was the survey announced to them? Was it related to something (a special event, a conference, ...)?
Were you able to address the right person (a person who was able to answer)?
This and more might influence the participation.
Which percentage started the survey?
How many % of the total sample are your 58 completes?

Most of your 238 respondents stopped after finishing the first page and seeing the second.
Were there questions which your target group doesn't like to answer, or some people are not able to answer? (see above)?

And one of the most important things?
Look and feel of the questionnaire itself.

Which types of questions did you use?
Was the design of the second page easy to understand?
In one of our last survey we found that people often cancelled on a certain page.
Fortunately we had told the client before that his desired design of this page might cause trouble.

And I fully agree to Tony

to be honest, if I was presente with 30 questions in a single page, I might be inclined to quit as well.

Best regards
Joffm
