Ask Groups in given order was created by denkschlind
Hi,
I'm evaluating LimeSurvey Version 3.6.1+180329 for internal usage in my company.
I'd like to have three groups being asked in the given order: first Group1, then Group2, then finally Group3.
No matter which order I set in the Admin UI, the Groups are not asked in that given order. (Further, the order of the questions in groups is mixed up as well, but that's a different story, maybe?)
I do not use any randomisation (well, I tried, but that didn't make any difference).
Reading the manual up and down, it seems that asking groups in the order as specified in the "Structure in the Admin UI" should be all that I have to do, but reality seems more complicated.
Now my questions: Is it possible to get groups asked in the survey in that given order? And if yes, what do i miss or am I doing wrong?
Any hint or help would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Please create a new survey with just three groups and one question in each group. Is the issue still there? If yes, please export the survey and attach it here in the thread to check the survey itself.denkschlind wrote: No matter which order I set in the Admin UI, the Groups are not asked in that given order. Hi Jelo, thanks for the quick response!
I created a new survey as suggested, exported .lss and a screenshot of the structure in Admin UI is attached. In the preview, the groups were asked in (again wrong) order like Group3, Group 1, Group 2.
Cheers!

Just found out that the exported data does not reflect the view in the Admin UI:
<group_name><![CDATA[Group 1]]></group_name>
<group_order><![CDATA[1]]></group_order>
<group_name><![CDATA[Group 2]]></group_name>
<group_order><![CDATA[2]]></group_order>
<group_name><![CDATA[Group 3]]></group_name>
<group_order><![CDATA[0]]></group_order>
I don't know the system, but this seems incosistent to me.

The order in the export is
Group3
Group1
Group2
The question is, if it is a bug with LS 3.6.1 or your setup.
Click on the version number at the bottom to get infos about your technical setup?
What database is used?

Tried reordering and exporting again:
<group_name><![CDATA[Group 1]]></group_name>
<group_order><![CDATA[2]]></group_order>
<group_name><![CDATA[Group 2]]></group_name>
<group_order><![CDATA[0]]></group_order>
<group_name><![CDATA[Group 3]]></group_name>
<group_order><![CDATA[1]]></group_order>
Seems like the last group in the list (bottom) always gets order "0", when the other groups are numbered almost correct.
I'm using Version 3.6.1+180329 on PHP 7.0 with a Postgres 9.5 database.
Since I tried this for a couple of surveys now and it's reproducible, I'd expect this to be a bug.

Yes, PostgreSQL is a common pattern when it comes to bugs. There is a lot less testing in the userbase. Please open a bugticket. I cannot help anymore. I'm using the most used setup to prevent such nasty issues.denkschlind wrote: Postgres 9.5 database.Since I tried this for a couple of surveys now and it's reproducible, I'd expect this to be a bug.

Please try use the question organizer instead of the side menu.

As far as I understand, the question organizer seems to be a feature in v2 where I'm using v3. I can't find a link to such an organizer?

It is quite hidden. If you collapse the side-menu, you can find a button to question organizer at the bottom of the side-menu.

Is that meant as a workaround? If creating a survey without touching the organizer the structure should stay. A bug report seems to be valid. I'm not using PostgreSQL. So I cannot reproduce.

Markus implemented the side-menu ordering. Please nag him to fix it.
