I have a large survey that has exceeded the number of cols set by LS or Mysql.
Get this error message when I try to activate the survey -"Survey could not be activated - too many columns".
Is there a way around this?

You can break it into two surveys and use the End URL to redirect to the second survey.

Thanks for this Tony.
Is there a way to tranfer the unique respondent number from the 1st survey to the second so that like respondents can be merged correctly?

You should be able to use the {SAVEDID} placeholder and this workaround to load a question in the second survey with the response ID from the first survey.

So the END URL of the first survey would be something like:
http://yourSite.com/limeSurvey//index.php?sid=123456&lang=en&11111X22X33={SAVEDID}

Hi Tony, which could you please update the URL of the workaround you mentioned here? I would like to try this in LS2 as I have the same problem.

Hi Everyone

I have been trying this workaround but am not getting it right. Could someone please assist with the tutorial or workaround on how to break down a survey into several surveys so as to avoid the error "too many columns-can't activate survey error"? I will really appreciate for pointers to any tutorial or workarounds.

Kind regards,
Alex
