Hi All,

I have a problem in my survey: There was a list (radio) question about the gender - it was the first question. Then a numerical input question about the respondent's first year at the uni. It was the fifth question and it showed up only for students. In several cases, the answer for the year had been copied into the gender variable. So I have not only 1 or 2 but also 2014, 2015 etc. in the coloumn of gender and don't know whether the respondent is a male or a female.
I use version 2.50+, build 160223.

So, what could be the problem? Can I fix it somehow?

Thank you for your help!

This sounds strange. Where does this problem appear? In the list of responses in Limesurvey or in the exported answer file? Which format do you use for the answer file?

By the way, your version is pretty old, there have been a few versions in between now and there have been many bug fixes.

Yes, it is.
It's in the Limesurvey and thus in the exported file, too. (First I have exported in .csv then .sav, but no difference.) So, I think, I can't fix it, but I'm curious, what's the problem.

Sounds pretty strange an if it is true what you are stating this must be a bug in this specific LS version. But I haven't heard of this so far... Can you post a screenshot of the Limesurvey answer table and the Excel (of course without any personal data of the respondents!).

Here are the screenshots. (I've deleted the csv file.)
Neme: gender, férfi:male, nő:female, and hallgviszonyev: the first year at the uni.

Hi, Fanny,
unfortunately I do not have your version anymore, but 160219.
I will install it and will see if I can reproduce the issue.

There is a slight chance that the correct data are still in the database, and there is only an error in the queries which show resp. export the data.
If you have access to the database you could check with a tool like phpMyAdmin.

A last idea:
Are you sure there is no hidden equation that under special conditions writes this date value into the gender variable?
This easily happens (too often to me) if you change the survey.

Best regards
Joffm

Hi, Fanny,
well, created a survey with your first questions in version 160219 and filled it about 20 times.
Unfortunately everything went well.

I know this is the least satisfying answer.
If somebody can reproduce the error might be found.

Best regards
Joffm

Hi, Joffm!

Thank you, I have a lot of cases without the problem, too. That's why it's surprising.

This is very, very strange. Because the year is still recorded in its own colum for the problematic cases, correct? But Somehow the year got also transfered to this gender question.

Do you use any javascript, conditions, expressions, etc?

Do you have access to the MySQL-Database to check if it is wrong there as well (I assume it is as this problem not only appears in the LS administration, but also in the exported file, but...).

Yes. We use conditions, the year shows up only for students (hallg=1).
It's wrong in the MySQL-Database, too.
