I would like to know if it is possible to do the following:

at the start of your survey, you choose a name from a dropdown menu, when chosen that name automatically appears in following questions.

is there code in html that will get this done ?

Please refer to the manual. You can use {INSERTANS} or Expression Manager tailoring/piping.

Cheers,

Complementing TPARTNER, you can add the dropdown as a first question and use the INSERTANS in the rest of the survey.

Thanks Gabriel en Tpartner. It works like a charm. There is still a small thing that bothers me, but I don't know if there is a solution.

Problem: if they choose a name in the dropdown menu, it has to be the full name, but when the name later reappears it should only be the given name without the surname. But I cannot think of a solution.

Is there a way to make a part of the answer to become invisble.

I have limesurvey 2.05 +

Maybe you could have display the fullname in the dropdown but only have the first name in the answer code.
You would only display the answercode in the following Questions and not the answerText.

Gabriel, I thought of this as well, but then what happens when you have more than one "Gabriel" for example? You can't identify people anymore and you wouldn't know which person is participating, because it could be any Gabriel.

How do you create full name in drop down and only given name in answerbox ?

If the code stays unique (just partly hidden) then it does not matter if there is more then one "Gabriel" ?

The purpose of my survey is to let a group of people (cliënt, peer, manager, network, self) validate one person's talents and at which level.

When you create your answer options, you have the answer code and the text of the answer, correct? So you could put the first name of the respondent as answer code and you could use the full name as the answer text.

But as I stated above, this only works, if there are no repetitive first names in your list of names (or if you don't need to know which person has answered what, but this sounds pretty unlikely, when you have a question with the name list included in your research).

Now I get it (almost :) ). How would you ensure that in your insertans23X24... the answercode and not the answertext appears ?

Above question is just nice to know, because you were right, this has no practical use in my survey, because each code has to be unique.

I was hoping that there was some html code that could make part of the answerbox not visible, or something like that.

thanks for the effort, nonetheless !

If you have more than one "Gabriel", you could make the AnswerCode "Gabriel J" and "Gabriel K".
Or "Gabriel-" and "Gabriel." :)
