Avoiding expression manager evaluation of user input?

Hi
I wanted to have a survey where users can submit also latex code as input into the survey text field,
but if a user writes, e.g.

\emph{Words to emphasize}

into a field, the result after saving the survey,
the result is

I think this is related to the expression manager trying to interpret the user input.
I do not use the expression manager at all in my survey and I would like that the result of what users input into the survey text fields stays exactly as it is. Is there a way to archieve that?
