Thanks for that but I still don't understand what it *does* and its *purpose*.
The phrase "Update token value with response" would indicate that the purpose of the update is to change the value of the above listed fields - either to concatenate the new value into that field or otherwise modify it.
If that was the purpose (and I don't know if that is the case) then for each participant and associated token, are those fields changed by the value input into the above fields?
So for example, if the first name field is "John" and I input "Sara" into the field "First Name Updated with", does that mean that when the response is complete, first name John is now changed to Sara?
It's just not clear to me. Thank you.

I haven't seen this feature either, but it seems to exist.
So from what I understand that it does:
You have information about something from a respondent, let's say the address. Now your information is a couple of years old and it could be that the person has moved. So you ask for the address again and then can update the address that was saved as an attribute in the token table with the new address given during the survey. I hope this makes it a little clearer.

Sounds to me like a plugin is involved.
A menu "Tools "inside the participant / token areas is unknown to me.

@tparner : seems this user have
updateTokenByResponse
plugin installed.
@bulgin : this plugin is offered free, someone set up at your company : ask him why he set up …
The description of the plugin is «'Update token after survey is submitted'»
If you need more help : support.sondages.pro/
PS : i move this topic to plugins section

Yes was a question from company worker. She was confused because the plugin updateTokenByResponse seen under Configuration | Plugin manager shows 100 available fields for use, whereas under menu Tools | Token Update there are only 3. Thus her confusion. See attached screenshot. This is what we call a "tempest in a teapot".

I really envision the day, when the LimeStore is used on every installation and many plugins will "enhance" the GUI.
Will be a blast here and I will submit a feature request for a "Run LimeSurvey without plugins"-mode.
