How to upgrade was created by norman
Got version 1.92+ build 120919 and need to update to a better version due to security flaws but want to know how to do this as currently got surveys and don't want to lose them? Any advise/link to instructions on how to upgrade would be great?

Given the age of your version, the safest route would probably be to create a new instance of 3.x and port your surveys via .lsa export/import.

I agree with Tony. You are many major versions behind and I don't think anyone tested this upgrade path. In generally I recommend a new instance for new major versions, but of course this might be complicated with huge installations. But given that you have such an old version still running, you are probably not using it very frequently anyway, so you probably don't have that many users and surveys, so it should be no big deal to set up a new installation in parallel, configure the installation, create the users, and export/import the surveys

Dear All,

We have version 2.05+ and we want to upgrade to version 3.x, is it possible?
or we need also to add the surveys via .lsa export/import option

Best regards,
Anis

If you don't use any plugins and are ready to redo template if needed : yes.
Except : it always a good solution to make all backup , even if it's never used … export as lsa are really a good step.

Dear Denis,

Thank you for your reply.

We don't have any plugins added. We have only theses plugins enabled: LimeSurvey internal database, Configure STATA Export, Export results to R.

We can re-edit our template.

We can directly upgrade to 3.x or we should upgrade to 2.7.x before?

Thank you again.

Best regards,
Anis

In this thread www.limesurvey.org/forum/installation-a-...-3-x?start=15#173794 you state, having 3000 surveys.

Are you sure, that none of these surveys are using workarounds? Are these all your surveys? Or are they uses and done by other user?

I cannot recommend to upgrade/update the installation.
You better migrate to a new installation with a small amount of surveys for testing. And then do it step by step.

I agree that .lsa export and migration is the safest route.

This is the step whith the safest way ;)
1. Make a DB copy on the SQL server if able
1b. If not able : dump DB
2. Make a directory copy of limesusrvey on server
2b. Make a local copy if not able
3. Export all lsa and lss file
4. Launch upgrade (manually or automatic)

(And there are an automatic backup each night of server of course …)
