Randomised Groups and timed questions? was created by PaulMRFGR
Hi,

Wondering if you can help me - wanted to know if this was possible:

1) We have six sets of images, but each respondent would only see one of those image sets (and it would be randomised as to which one they see). We envision the best way to do this would be through question groups(?)

2) We'd need to time some images (e.g. they only show for 30 seconds). Is this possible?

Thank you.

Hi, of course.
So, if each respondent only sees one image, create a random number (1-6) in a question of type "equation" (let's call it "randnumber")
Enter as question text :{if(is_empty(randnumber),rand(1,6),randnumber)}

and set the relevance equation of each image question to
randnumber==1,
randnumber==2,
...

And as you probably saw, in the question options there is a section called "timer".
Here you set whatever you want to do.
The time the picture is displayed, what happens afterwards, and so on

Best regards
Joffm

Hey!

Thanks for the reply. Respondents will be seeing a set of images (rather than just one image). So basically, we have six set of images:

Set 1: Image 1, Image 2, Image 3, Image 4
Set 2: Image 5, Image 6, Image 7, Image 8
Set 3: Image 9, Image 10, Image 11, Image 12
Set 4: Image 13, Image 14, Image 15, Image 16
Set 5: Image 17, Image 18, Image 19, Image 20
Set 6: Image 21, Image 22, Image 23, Image 24

We need to randomise which set respondents see. So only some respondents will see set 6, but others will see a different set, (set 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5).

With this in mind, would you be able to advise on how this would be possible with LimeSurvey?

Thanks for your help so far with this.

Hi,

Also, just to add, we'd need the system to record which set they've seen.

Thank you.

Joffm did explain how to do it.

1) Create an equation type question loaded with a random number between 1 and 6.

2) Place relevance on questions or groups based on the value of the equation question.

Hi,

Thanks - that makes sense :) Is there a way for the survey to record which question set they've seen? I assume it will just say the random number they got from 1-6 when I export the results (and I can use that to identify which set they saw?)

Thanks.

That is correct. The random number is part of the response set.
