Having trouble uploading my csv file was created by sanders
Hi there - I've been having a really hard time uploading a csv file with 1800 emails.
This is the error message I get:
"Failed to create token entries
1828 records in CSV
1828 records met minimum requirements
0 records imported
Warnings
1828 records with invalid email address removed
    "

When I click on the list, all of the lines show up as blanks.
I have put in 3 attributes, including dummy first names and last names; the email addresses are valid; and the file is saved as a csv. Does anyone have any tips on how to get my survey out the door? I'm desperate!

    Thanks,
    Sarah

What version of LimeSurvey is used?
What software is used to create/edit the csv-file?

To find the issue I would do the following:
Add one token via the LimeSurvey interface.
Export the CSV file.
Delete the token entry in LimeSurvey.
Import the CSV file (untouched by other software).
Is the import working without issue? Yes/No
If Yes, then edit the CSV file and add you content.
Import CSV. Issues?
If no, then fine.
If yes, try to modify the CSV with a different software (e.g. LibreOffice Calc www.libreoffice.org ).
Then try again.

You might create a CSV with just one dummy data row and attach it here. Perhaps there is a issue in the CSV itself.

Did Jelos suggestions help?

I have also been fighting with the csv import issues every time I need to import participant information. This time I created a csv (from MS Excel) file having all the mandatory (eg. email) and some of the optional (eg. language) columns and also about 10 additional columns (attribute_1 etc.).

No error messages, but none of the additional attributes we imported. Only the general ones, perfectly for every 25 participants I had in the test file.

Isn't it strange that, that the only some of the attributes went missing?

Create a CSV with one token and with dummy content. Attach it here for Testing.

Hi, Trifon,
I just tried with this csv file:

and these additional attributes:

No problems. Here the imported attributes:

So please send your structure with a dummy file.

Trifon, did you create the attributes in the LimeSurvey participants interface before importing?

No, I did not. Obviously this was my problem. Sorry, my bad...

But I still have issues on bringing the partipant information to the sheet. For example, in the invitation email {FIRSTNAME] works, but in the sheet it doesn't and neither does {TOKEN:FIRSTNAME}.

I have just updated the latest version, and need to explore the situation with it. Thanks.

{TOKEN:FIRSTNAME} works for me in a survey using version 3.14.8.

My tech-savvy colleague prepared a .csv file for me, and I have now a survey with n> 13 000 happily up and running.

My point is that, according to my experience, the general process of creating .csv file that is digestable to Lime is difficult, at least with the skills compared to mine. I'm sure that there is nothing wrong technically, this it totally UX "issue". I guess that majority prepares their lists fof respondents and custom attributes in Excel. And, as you know, there is something going on in Excel that can "corrupt" the file, when you try to create a .csv, in a way that as a result the file is not clean csv. how it supposed to. You need to know how to check the data quality with some text editor or something. This causes troubles for users like me (hopefully I am the only one, of course).

It is great how "tweakable" Lime is, and how many "advanced" features there is. And in general, the usability and the workflow in Lime is fine. My point is that for dummies like me, there seems to be too many possibilities for failure with csv import.

There is a lot to choose in Lime, where you describe your csv. properties. What some of them would be visible in "advanced" page?

I currently don't see how the adding of an advanced setting page would solved your issue with CSV preparation? To implement an advanced setting page someone will have to decide what is advanced and what is not.

Is your tech-savvy colleague compensating LimeSurvey UX or autodetection of data structures ;-)
