Exporting Syntax to SPSS 20 - Error 100 was created by liamh121
Hi there,
We are trying to export our survey syntax into SPSS 20 - followed all the instructions and continuously receiving constant repetitions of the following errors for each variable - alas, no output is achieved. Any ideas

>Error # 100. Command name: RENAME VARIABLE
>This command is not permitted before the beginning of file definition
>commands.
>Execution of this command stops.
RENAME VARIABLE ( V67 = C7_other ).

Did you modify the line that does the actual import so it can find the file? Line 4 i think it is. There should be a different error before this one as the renames are on the end of the file.

The real error: >(2269) Failure opening file: /Users/HackettandTiger/survey_61547_SPSS_data_file.dat

Line 5 should be modified to read the full path to the file. When it can find the file it will run normal.

Well, do you actually have problems with exporting or with importing? I assume it is with importing, right?

I answer at the LimeSurvey forum in my spare time, I'm not a LimeSurvey GmbH employee.

Yes with importing. To make from the syntax file a sav file, to use the data in SPSS.

In the attachments I put the output which I get afther changing what is standing behind File to this: /FILE='c:\data\survey_56224_SPSS_data_file.dat' and clicking on Run --> All

I see that the attachment of the output is not working so I made a picture of it.

I als tried File with this name: C:\spss\Data\limesurvey\SPSS\survey_56224_SPSS_data_file.dat

But by both I get the same result. In the picture you see what I see in the syntax file.

Hopefully this give enough information to come to a solution

It looks like you have an incorrect path to the "survey_56224_SPSS_data_file.dat" file.

Open the folder it was downloaded into, right-click in the address bar and copy the address as text. Then paste that address into line 8 of the SPSS syntax file. So that line may look something like:
Code:
/FILE='C:\Users\YourUsername\Downloads\survey_56224_SPSS_data_file.dat'

Hi Tony,

I tried it, but it is still not working. The first picture is the address bar which I see when I open it and the second picture is the adress bar when I copy the adress as text. I tried both ways to put in after file. But I am working on the system of the hospital Erasmus MC.

I also tried to download it in document, but also here it was not working.

And to be sure, you mean Line 5 after the word file instead of line 8 or?

Remove "c:\" from the beginning.
