Hi everyone

Would love some help please!

My survey is complete, however, when I try to activate it, an ERROR message appears telling me that the
"Survey does not pass consistency check."

I have tried everything I can…
I've deleted the question and tried to activate. I've restructured the question. But the same error msg comes up.

I don't know what to do. I cannot see what the problem is.
Have searched the Manual but can't find any answers.

Any advice appreciated

Does anyone know of any paid telephone tech support for issues like I'm having (please see error message below)???

I really need to get it resolved.
I am a Uni student doing my Masters thesis, so am accessing LimeSurvey through Uni and am unable to give much technical information regarding LimeSurvey itself :(
I log in via my supervisor, so am limited to what I can do or information I can provide.

And…

I have just searched this site and found several people with the same problem but I do not seem to understand the answers.
I simply don't understand the technical language being spoken.
It's a difficult situation.

Question qid-6 This question has no answers.
The survey cannot be activated until these problems have been resolved.

Normally this means that qid-6 has a question type that needs answer options before it can work (i.e. a dropdown list). But you say that the same error happens when you remove the question? Probably then another question gives the same problem? What is the question type of qid-6?

Thanks for your response fransmarcelissen

First off, the question type was a simple radio button with a two answer option.
I redid it as a dropdown list with a two answer option.

Both question types produce the exact same error message.

And... when I delete the question and try to activate it, the same error message comes up even though the question is no longer there (i.e., deleted!). Very strange. It's telling me that there is an error about a question that does not exist.

It's not indicating that "another" question has the same problem.

Thank you very much for your response.

I wish I could attach a copy of my survey as I'm sure you'd all probably have it sorted out if you could see exactly what was going on.
Unfortunately, I have gone through a very rigorous University Ethics procedure, and uploading my survey here would probably breach Ethics approval. I'm not certain of this, but I think that would be the case :(

This is so difficult!
The problem is beyond my computer capabilities and I am feeling stuck.
I simply cannot see that there is any obvious problem with the question.

Also, I have done several "test" run throughs (prior to trying to activate) and it goes smoothly.

Hi Kate,
Did you preview/test the question, the group and the survey? If previewing is possible, that still does not mean that you can activate it, but probably there is a question that does not look like the way you expect it to look like.
If you cannot save and upload the survey, you could create a test survey (that has the same problem)on another server and send us that one. If you want you can use my server for that (send me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) your email adress and I will make a account for you).

Yes I did preview/test the question… several times. Each time, I ran through the entire survey without a hitch.
It is Sunday here today, but I will speak with the Uni IT people tomorrow and consult with them regarding your suggestion. Thanks!

Hi everyone

IT at Uni have sorted things out for me.
They were unable to work out what exactly the problem was, so duplicated the survey and now it works.
Have a new URL so have had to change that on all my hard copy info, but that's okay!

I have encountered the same problem, and was also able to successfully activate a copy of the problematic survey. Were it not for Kate's post, I wouldn't have thought to try that! I will post a more detailed description via REPLY TOPIC, as it might help you experts figure things out.

I've been unable to activate a survey that had given no problems for any of its pre-activation run-throughs. The error message is as follows:

Question qid-331 ("For each type of software listed below, indicate if you used
it in a course you taught and how recently, and then rate its adequacy."): This
question has no subquestions.
The survey cannot be activated until these problems have been resolved.

Some salient (I think!) points:
1. The problematic question did not exist in the finished survey, as far as I could tell.
2. The question was either one that I had originally created and then deleted, or...(see point 3)
3. At one point I tried to change the order of some questions via the page that lists all questions and allows you to drag them around to the desired order, and a question I was dragging seemed to disappear. It might or might not have been the problematic question, which I believe was an array with dual drop-down lists. When I'd tried to create a new question to replace the vanished one, LimeSurvey wouldn't let me use the same code name, which suggested that some trace of the vanished question was still floating around somewhere--but I could never see any sign of it.
4. What especially puzzles me is why the copied survey can be activated. Wouldn't any problems with the original end up in the copy?

Please update to the latest version - there was a bug causing this that has been recently fixed.

Thanks--our version is quite recent, but presumably not the latest. Also, I'm glad to hear I wasn't imagining things.

Assuming that the vanished question was the cause of our survey being non-activatable (a reasonable assumption?), how come all the pre-activation run-throughs worked? And, why could a copy of the survey be successfully activated? (Our problems are solved, but we're curious!)

I then exported the file in .lss and looked at the qid with a problem, and they were empty :

So, I removed all of these empty <row> items, uploaded the corrected .lss file and it went fine.

Could you tell me in which version of LimeSurvey the bug was fixed? We have been working with version 2.05+ Build 140116.
