I want to ask survey participant for the first half of their UK postcode. For data protection reasons we do not want the full postcode as that potentially makes the participant identifiable.

Unfortunately the UK postcode format has been expanded over the years and does not have a nice structure. Wikipedia has a summery of the various postcode layouts.

It is possible to get a list of postcode districts however this is over 3000 entries long.

Is there a nice way to make limesurvey limit survey answers to those on the list? A 3000 entry dropdown list would be a bit extreme!

For the planned use the survey will be filled in by trained participants so it is less of an issue if they get "invalid answer" messages but it would be nice to have a version that can be used for public facing surveys in the future.

Many thanks
Mark

Have a look at the autocomplete workarounds here - manual.limesurvey.org/Workarounds:_Manip...wers_for_text_inputs
