LimeSurvey 2.07 Preview
Although sometimes it looks quiet on the outside there are exiciting things happening here. We have hired two full-time coders now (the second one is starting in August). We are working hard on new features and in the course of this we created a redeisgned web interface based on the current 2.06 version. We invite everyone to have a look here:

To login just click the login button. Please play around with it and let us know if you like it or not. We appreciate any kind of constructive feedback on the shortcomings of the preview version. Note that not all dialogs are finished as it is a work in progress - please bear with us!

I definitely like the move to enable (or have an option to enable) advanced settings always being shown. I've long-since modified my installation to show them by default.
My strong recommendation for the question explorer side-bar is to simply have it show ALL the groups and questions. In the mock-up for 2.5 it still takes a lot of clicks to get to editing a question. In my 2.06 installation I've modified it to display at shown in teh attached picture. When the admin clicks on a question in the left-hand column that question is opened for editing (with advanced settings displayed) immediately. That both makes it easier to navigate among questions you want to edit, and also gives a visual overview of the structure of the survey.
I'd be happy to code something for 2.5 that does something similar, if that would be helpful.
No plugin event for this. Anf plugin is 2.5 incompatible.Mazi wrote: My suggestion is to add a new "Always show all advanced question settings" option to Global settings -> Presentation. By default it should be set to "No" and if needed admins can easily switch this on.
Then not work on it.

From my point of view the user should always be able to decide this?!
+1

I agree that having an option to always show the advanced settings is something the hard core users would definitely benefit from. But we also need to keep in mind that for new users the long list of additional settings may be confusing.
My suggestion is to add a new "Always show all advanced question settings" option to Global settings -> Presentation. By default it should be set to "No" and if needed admins can easily switch this on.
What do you think?
Different topic: Does anyone know why the setting for enabling showing the "no answer" option for non-mandatory questions at survey level is de-activated by default?
Admins must change this at Global settings -> Presentation -> "Show 'no answer' option for non-mandatory questions" to enable other users to change that on survey level.

Because now you have to: Survey -> Group -> Question -> Edit question -> Advanced features and then eventually you have to open also the answer options.
This should all be directly available via this way: Survey -> Group -> Question.

No, because update core system used by a lot of user, where i'm not the Lead Dev is really more difficultholch wrote: Great. So when can we expect it being part of the core?
The js line to be added in admin_core.js(sorry, couldn't let this pass. You asked for it...
)
$('#advancedquestionsettingswrapper').show();There are a Featire Request in mantis to allow admintemplate.js , but don't found it. (This can be done with aother js too, surely

It can be done with a 1/2 lines of js in 2.05

People who create the surveys probably work on relatively big screens and at the moment we are losing a lot of time as we need to click a lot to get where we can make changes to the surveys. On big screens we could offer everything quite well in one view port, without having to open the answer options and the advanced settings additionally. This could also be a setting so that each user could decide if he/she wants to see everything at once or if they prefer to see only the simple view (in order to not get overwhelmed.
The right panel is a good idea, but right now, having subquestions or default anwsers in right panel would implied many changes in the code. So it will rather be for 3.0, or a next release of 2.5 (yes, 2.07 is now 2.5
But thanks again to all of you for contributing, feel free to report bugs, ask for developments, submit mockup, screenshots, etc.
Your dreams are our work.
As others have said, a tree or something similar on the left that shows the organization of the entire survey would be very, very helpful. Ideally it would be possible to drag and drop questions and/or groups directly on that tree to rearrange, rather than going to a special page to do that. Also would be nice to be able to select multiple questions and delete, or copy, or move them all together.
Clicking on a question should open it immediately for editing, rather than first selecting it, then clicking "edit."
I would really like to see a horizontal organization that moved from the tree on the left, to question editing on the middle, to more detail on the right--advanced options, answer options, subqustions, preview. I've attached a mockup of what this might look like--notice the tabs on the right for subquestions/answeroptions/advanced settings/question preview.
Anyway, just my thoughts ... thank you as always for all of your hard work on this excellent tool.

Various point :
1. The project is now 2.5, rather than 2.07. You can download it here :
github.com/LimeSurvey/LimeSurvey/tree/2.5
2. As asked by different people, I provided the possibility to edit the box in the home page (it's very simple, it could be improved in the future). Tab "Home Page" in Global Settings :
preview.limesurvey.org/index.php?r=admin/globalsettings
3.The menu now open on click (not on mouse hover)
4. I changed the statistics rendering, using chartjs (bar, pie, radar, polar, line and donuts available ) :
plus many other little changes.

I personally would like to see a navigation (a little tree type), to the left or the right, so you can open the groups with a click and choose the respective question you want.
..Just wanted to share how I imagine it should look like
Anyway, my single greatest endorsement of the redesign is in the survey design panel being oriented to the side. The icons in previous versions made teaching LS fairly agonizing. A sample conversation:
"Select the piece of paper. No, not that one. No, not the one with the lens, either. Yeah, that one, the one with the pencil." etc.
To simply have the text display the menu you wish to open takes away a lot of confusion.
Otherwise, the only thing I can mention which I haven't seen stated is a critique of the font at the very top of the page. I'm not working on an HD monitor, so the very thin text "LimeSurvey New Admin Interface" is very tough to see.
Cheers!

Edit - I should be clearer. The thin text I'm not a fan of also makes an appearance in the navigation pane on the left hand side. However, when you rollover that text, it then becomes block capitals against a colored background. That's easy to read. Can we have the block caps in green against a white background when not rolling over?
