To make surveys look nicer some survey tools offer the possibility to upload images of the radio buttons and check boxes in different states (role over, selected, etc.).

Is this planned for Limesurvey 2, or will there still be the standard form elements?

Something like this: ryanfait.com/resources/custom-checkboxes-and-radio-buttons/

I really like the checkboxes! They are great; would be nice if anyone could implement something like that into v1.x

Found something similar:
www.emblematiq.com/projects/niceforms/

and

customformelements.net/

The good thing is, by changing the images the form elements could be changed and adapted for every theme (colors, shape, etc.).

Since we will be using Jquery in LS2 it will be more like this :

Well, how the default form elements look like doesn't really matter. What's important is, that I can change them for each template, etc. If the solution with Jquery gives this possibility, then I am perfectly fine with that.
