[done] Question Preview 2 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hi everyone

I am a new user with Limesurvey so this maybe a very basic question. Please help me if you can. Thank you so very much.

When I preview a newly created question, this message always appears before the text of question and I should go to 'edit the current question' to delete it every time. :"Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}"

Please let me know how to delete it once and this message wont appear again next time I creat another question. Your help is highly appreaciated.

Cheers
Cindy

1. Which version and build of LimeSurvey do you use?

2. How do you create the question? Do you use any of the integrated editors? Do you copy/paste text from other sources?

3. Does the error occur with other browsers, too.

Thanks Mazi

Im using Version 1.71+ (5565) and creating the questions by copying them from a word document and then pasting. I just tried it with Mozilla Firefox browser. Please let me know what I should do. Thank you so very much.

Have a nice day
Cindy

Please try to create a test question without copying any content. Just to test if this is a general error. I assume this is connected to copying data from Word.
Another solution is to copy the text from word to a raw text editor and afterwards post it from there into limesurvey.

Please test and report back.

I have done the same and it is a word/mozilla issue, if you use notepad it doesn't happen.

I believe it happens because when you paste into the editor, it pastes the 'html source' that word generates.

It annoyed me for ages.

Hi Mazi and Akky

Thank you so much for your reponses. I did try to paste from Notepad and it was well done!!!

Now I have some other issues which do really need your help. I am building up a quite complicated questionnaire which include a very long list of activities and sub-activities (nearly 100)that are used for different questions. For example:

Q1: Please tick which activities/sub-activities you do at work (from the drop down menu).
Q2. Please indicate how much time do you spend on each of the activities/sub-activities you selected in Q1.
Q3. Please rate your knowledge in each of the activities/sub-activities you seleceted in Q1.
...

To my knowledge, the drop-down menu question only allows for one entry answer. For Q1, there may be more than one entry. Is there any solution for this? It would be very long if I use 'check any that apply' question type as I said the list of activities include nearly 100 items.

In addition, after respondents answer Q1 is there any solution to link Q2 and Q3 and so on with the selected activities from the drop down menu of Q1 so that I wouldnt have to repeat the list of activities in Q2 and 3?

Similarly in the following situation:

Q6. Please list the names of people you work with in your section?
Q7. Rank the importance of these people.
Q8. How often do you meet each of these people at work?
...

Is there any solution to link Q7 and Q8 and so on to the answer of Q6 (NAME - multiple short free text question)?

I do really look forward to hearing from you soon. Have a nice weekend.

Regards
Cindy.

Hi there

Sorry I have another two questions.

1. For the array question type, when the number of answers (lines) is more than 25, it automatically break the array by repeating the scale. E.g

To which degree do you agree with the following statements:

Strong Disagree Disagree Slightly Diasgree ....

1. Statement 1
2. Statement 2
...
25. Statement 25

Strong Disagree Disagree Slightly Diasgree ....

26. Statement 26
27....

How to fix it so that all statements are put togehter without break as above?

2. When setting the drop-down menu lable set, how to break one long answer into more than one line/row so that the line is shorter otherwise repondents would have to move the scroll bar to be able to read the whole answer and web-page?

Thank you very much for your responses.

Cheers
Cindy.

Hi Sindy,
because of all those questions I really recommend to read the manual carefully.

Nevertheless I want to help you so here are some answers:
How to fix it so that all statements are put togehter without break as above?
This can be set in config.php. There is a setting like "...repeatheading..." in config-default.php which is set to 25. Copy this setting to config.php (which overwrites the other setting) and edit the number.

To my knowledge, the drop-down menu question only allows for one entry answer.
That's right. You have to choose another question type for this.

Furthermore take a look at these pages to knwo more about survey design:
- manual -> question types
- manual -> question attributes
- manual -> setting conditions

There is also a demo survey which contains all question types. It should be located in the "docs" folder of your installation and can be imported so you can look at these question types at your installation.

Re:Question Preview 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Mazi

Thank you so very much. I have fixed the problems of refering a question to the answer of previous questions. However, everytime I save the file from one computer to my USB and then import it to another computer the group and question ID would change. It would create errors for all questions with reference to the answers of previous questions and so require me to change them all to match with the new groups and questions ID. This issue is very messy so could you pleae let me know how to fix it?

Regarding the problem of breaking a very long label/answer (in a drop-down question) into more than one line so that respondents would be able to view the whole survey-page without moving the scroll bar, do you have any suggestion?

Thank you very much for your kind assistance.

Regards
Cindy

Re:Question Preview 2 Months ago Karma: 25
@1: Do you try to export the whole survey? This should solve the problem of not-matching IDs.
If you are just trying to copy the questions I think there is no solution because the IDs are assigned by incrementing them e.g. if the latest ID was 22 the next question will have ID #23.

@2: I think this isn't possible. Only solution I can think of is to use some css to broaden the drop down form.
You can try to add "n" to the question to create a break. Maybe <br /> if /n doesn't work. But I doubt that this will work.
