The new version of limesurvey seems very keen on making sure the code of sub-questions in array-style questions begins with letters. I'm not really sure why this is now the status quo, however it is what happens if you don’t follow the new system that concerns me.

Now, if you don't follow the required format, when you press “save” it produces error messages. Of course, this makes sense. However the problem is that not only do you lose any changes you made to the code of the sub-question, but you also lose any changes you made to the sub-questions themselves

This can mean you lose lots of additional material. For example, you may have edited the text in several sub-questions, or even added new sub-questions. But, if you haven’t followed the required format on the code - and you press save - you lose all that information without warning.

Now of course, AFAIK this only happens on IE9. It doesn’t, for example, happen in FF27.0. But assuming that it isn’t changeable, might it be possible, to make a pop up appear when people log in using IE9, to say that this version of the browser isn't fully supported.

And, yes. I know. IE9? I’m sorry. But it is the browser we use at work.

LS Version 2.05+ Build 140116
Brower: IE9 or FF27.0

I think the requirement of the letter (or underscore if I remember right) comes because of Expression Manager. Why exactly Expression Manager needs this: I am not sure.

The rest I can't really answer.
Have a look at the manual! It is a really valuable source for information. Here some helpful links:
Manual (EN) | Question Types | Question Attributes | Workarounds

I doubt this is an IE9 only problem. Did you clear your browser cache after update (as you were hinted by the ComfortUpdate)?
