Thanks, Dennis

I'll report it...I was too quick to click on the "update available" link on the top right corner. I've learned my lesson, though. I don't remember seeing beta update being offered for a stable installation before. Is this new?

The updater was extended recently because some users want to test beta version or check new features at upcoming versions.

If you think the warning should be more clear, please make suggestions and we will see what we can do.

It doesn't make sense to offer beta updates for stable versions...As a user, I'd like to be able to test a beta version without compromising my current surveys or projects. For instance, I updated to the Beta version offered, and now I cannot set survey permissions, and the upload question type is not working in one of my active surveys.

1) You are right, thank you for your post. I added some information about this to the manual.
The developers had the same thought: the behaviour you want can be configured in the setup.
manual.limesurvey.org/Global_settings#General

2) And this option makes live easy, if you start testing for the next update.
To prepare the next update, I have a test installation for "looking into the future".
The new function allows me to do this fast an reliable.

We did some modification on the update process to prevent mistakes. The reported problems seem minor and easy to fix, so if possible please report bugs for them in the bugtracker. That way we can push 2.05 from beta to stable quicker and get you a working 2.05
